The #MeToo movement has really shaken up the Indian film industry last year. Many women artists and workers in the film industry have come out and shared their harassment stories. The movement also revealed the dark side of popular artists and technicians. One among them is popular Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu.

It was singer Chinmayi who came out in public and revealed how Vairamuthu harasses the female singers in the industry. This move made his career steep down drastically in the past one year. But director Mani Ratnam shocked everyone by appointing him as the lyricist for the film Ponniyin Selvan. This has stunned everyone in the industry and even Mani Ratnam received severe backlash on the decision.
Finally, the maverick director decided to sack Vairamuthu from the film and it was officially confirmed the other day. Many industry folks like Chinmayi and actor Siddarth have welcomed the move and termed it as a starting step for the downfall of Vairamuthu.
Netizens on social media also invited the decision of Mani Ratnam and stated that there is a lot of cleaning up to do in the coming days as well. The shoot of Ponniyin Selvan has started in Thailand recently.
