Director Mari Selvaraj is all set for the release of his second film Karnan with Dhanush. Karnan, produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, will hit the theatres on April 9. A few days ago, a resident of Madurai filed a petition with Madurai High Court asking for the film to be banned till the song is removed. The High Court issued notices to Mari Selvaraj, producer Kalaipuli S Thanu and actor Dhanush on the same. Following the notice, Mari Selvaraj has now changed the word Pandarathi to Manjanathi to avoid any further complications for the film.
In a statement, he said, "I thank all the fans for supporting Karnan from the time shoot began till now. The love you show towards me has also taught me to make films with at most responsibility. Pandarathi Puranam was also created by respecting the values of people, but the impact certain names/words create in our society is unimaginable. I have decided to put a full stop to the debates and issues revolving around Pandarathi Puranam, we have decided to call Pandarathi Puranam, Manjanathi Puranam. We have made the changes in our film and it will take some time to reflect in the digital space online."
