The 27-year-old singer got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 14 years ago. Nick took to Instagram and captioned his selfie: “This experience has shaped how I approach my health – working out, eating well, and always thinking about my blood sugar and insulin needs. You can’t always see what goes into managing an invisible illness, and Type 1 diabetes can feel lonely and isolating.”
He got inspired to co-found a non-profit organization called @BeyondType1in 2015 to encourage people with this diabetic condition to live healthily.
Type 1 diabetes is a condition triggered when the body does not produce enough insulin which is crucial to maintain sugar levels and metabolism. Nick had diagnosed at the age of 13. It is different from Type 2 diabetes which causes due to lifestyle changes and lack of exercise.
Nick’s caption ended with “November is Diabetes Awareness Month – join us at Beyond Type 1 by sharing how diabetes has impacted your life using #TheDropSpotted. I’m so grateful to my fans for your support and kindness!”
