The 2020 Oscars started with a hit on Sunday when the Dolby Theatre resonated with a musical performance by Janelle Monáe. It came inspired by some of this year's nominated films. Her number featured lots of dancing, a guest appearance from Billy Porter, and even an attempt at audience participation. Unfortunately for Brad Pitt, he was the target of the participation.
Toward the end of the performance, Janelle got off stage and attempted to get some of the nominees sitting in the front row to join in. She sang some short melodies and invited different celebrities to sing them back into the microphone. Some of the celebrities like Cynthia Erivo were game. But not Brad Pitt. When Janelle came up to invite Brad to sing, he chuckled and shook his head "no."
The reactions of Pitt’s fans is worth a read:
"Brad Pitt being terrified of Janelle Monae making him sing is my favorite thing," one fan (@soursimp) wrote.
"Brad Pitt's face when Janelle pointed the mic at him hahaha," another fan (@babygotbecki) tweeted.
Another fan said: @Jasonhafford: Brad Pitt shaking his head as Janelle Monáe approached him with the microphone is every kid begging not to be called on by the teacher in class #Oscars Brad went on to win the first award of the night, Best Supporting Actor for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
