Every year, the board of MAMI celebrates the best works of Marathi Cinema of that particular season by screening them under the category 'Marathi Talkies.' Many acclaimed Marathi films had their premiere in the festival in the past. This time there are two films which are getting screened under this category.
The first one is Dithi directed by Sumitra Bhave. This drama unfolds the story of an ironsmith who is a devotee of Lord Vittal. But his faith in God goes for a toss when his only son drowns in a river. Sumitra has earlier directed the national award-winning film Kaasav and thus, there is the anticipation on this one as well.
The next one is Panghrun directed by the popular actor Mahesh Manjrekar. Not many down the Telugu states know that Mahesh is a renowned director in Hindi and Marathi Cinema. He earlier made a few critically acclaimed films like Vaastav, Asthithva, and Natsamrat. Hence, there are a lot of expectations for this new film as well.
