Ponniyin Selvan Almost Ends It's Theatrical Run With Around 500 Crores

The historical drama "Ponniyin Selvan 1," Mani Ratnam's magnum work, was released in theatres in September. It got off to a monster start at the box office. The first instalment of Mani Ratnam's historical epic trilogy, has reached the end of its box office run after earning around Rs. 500 crores globally. The movie is still playing in several theatres in Tamil Nadu. But the sum will only increase by a few lakhs at most. The movie made 327 crores rupees in India. It made another 169 crores rupees ($20.70 million) abroad. The total box office take stands at 496 crores rupees.

Ponniyin Selvan is the second-highest-grossing Kollywood movie overall. It comes just after 2.0, which earned Rs. 665 crores internationally in 2018. If only Tamil-language sales are taken into account, 2.0 and Vikram lose ground to this film, which earned nearly Rs. 50 crores more. The movie had its digital release on November 4th. It is important to note that the OTT rights for the two installments of "Ponniyin Selvan" were sold as a package for Rs 125 crores. Based on the novel by Kalki Krishnamoorthy, "Ponniyin Selvan 1" narrates the history of the Cholas. Jayam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, and Sarath Kumar are among the cast members. Ravivarman is in charge of the cinematography. AR Rahman composed the music for the film.
