Director Mani Ratnam has been trying to make his dream of adapting Tamil literary novel Ponniyin Selvan into a film. Despite several failed attempts, Mani Ratnam did not give up. Last year, his production house Madras Talkies in association with Lyca Productions announced that Ponniyin Selvan will be made in two parts. The first schedule of the film took place in Thailand with Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Sobhita Dhulipala and Aishwarya Lekshmi. The second schedule began from January 6 at the prestigious Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad.
The latest development is that the makers have decided to shoot major portions of the film In Hyderabad. According to reports, six different film sets have been erected at the Ramoji Film city. Ponniyin Selvan is based on the story of the novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy. The film features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Nizhalgal Ravi. Ponniyin Selvan has music composed by AR Rahman. The technical crew of Ponniyin Selvan features cinematographer Ravi Varman and editor A Sreekar Prasad.
