Prakash Raj, who was a guest at a literature festival in Kerala, spoke out against people who wanted to boycott Pathaan and see it fail. He stated that they are merely 'barking' and have nothing else to say about the popular Hindi flick. The actor also cited the film's box office receipts, proving those who wanted the picture boycotted wrong.
Pathaan features Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. The film sparked outrage after its first song, Besharam Rang, was released. A few politicians and celebrities criticized Deepika's outfit in the song, particularly the color of her bikini. On the internet, there were various demands to boycott the picture. However, when the picture, directed by Siddharth Anand, was released it broke box-office records.
The actor was one of the invited speakers at the Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters in Kerala. He attended along with Kabir Bedi, Amitav Ghosh, and Sudha Murthy. The actor appeared in the Tamil film Varisu and the Telugu film Waltair Veerayya this year. According to Prakash, "They wanted to ban Pathaan. It's going 700 crores. These idiots, who wanted to ban Pathaan, did not run Modi's film for 30 crores. They are just barking, they don't bite. Don't worry. Sound pollution!"
The actor advised them to disregard them because their boycott plans had failed. Following the Besharam Rang controversy last year, Prakash came out in favor of Deepika. On Twitter, he shared a news item he had authored
#Besharam BIGOTS.. So it’s okay when Saffron clad men garland rapists..give hate speech, broker MLAs, a Saffron clad swamiji rapes Minors, But not a DRESS in a film ?? #justasking ….Protesters Burn Effigies Of SRK In Indore. Their Demand: Ban 'Pathaan' https://t.co/00Wa982IU4
He also complimented the Pathaan team, which included actor John Abraham, on the film's record opening.
Pathaan has grossed 429.9 crores at the domestic box office in just 12 days. According to Yash Raj Films, the film, directed by Siddharth Anand, has grossed $832.20 crore worldwide.
