Debutant director PS Vinothraj's Koozhangal has been making Tamil cinema proud after receiving several awards and accolades from several international film festivals. Earlier this year, Koozhangal was selected for a special screening at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam. After the screening, it won the prestigious Tiger Award. Koozhangal is the first production venture of Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara under Rowdy Pictures. The film was considered among the 15 films for India's official entry to Oscars 2022. Now, Koozhangal has been selected as India's official entry to Oscars 2022.
Producer Vignesh Shivan took to Twitter to share the good news with everyone. In an interview with a popular entertainment portal, the director-producer said that it was director Ram who identified Koozhangal and asked if Vignesh Shivan could take over and produce it. It was after that Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan watched the rushes of Koozhangal. Vignesh Shivan revealed that it was Nayanthara's call to produce Koozhangal. Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara are planning to set up a base in Los Angeles for the film's Oscar campaign. The Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal director revealed that directors Mani Ratnam and Vetri Maaran have watched the film.
