Ram Gopal Varma makes sense on encounter killings

Maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is one who understands the society very well. Like every time, he is always on point with the opinions he makes. Ram Gopal Varma reacted to the sudden rape and murder of Disha and the encounters that followed.

"With regard to encounter killings, the fundamental foundation of any society is to control emotional outbursts and apply rationality in a due process of the rule of law ..so encounters cannot be justified under any circumstances. The point of a criminal justice system in any civilized society is that police will arrest, investigate and furnish evidence to the judiciary which will study the veracity of the facts and then decide on the quantum of punishment. The outrage in the people might be justified considering the brutality of the crime but the police themselves taking law into their own hands and killing will amount to nothing but disregarding the judiciary and paving way for a barbaric police state society. The purpose of due process of law is to find the entire details of the crime in terms of both the failure of the system and the degree of who’s more responsible so that it can be used for the future in crime prevention. The urgency is to capture them so that they won’t cause further crime which the police did. But when they are already in custody by fast-tracking punishment, the entire system will lose out on the insights of the crime forever. A most important point of the criminal justice system is to prove the guilt of criminals through a due process of law if we start giving punishments based on police claims, media speculations and uninformed people’s outcries society will collapse." posted Ram Gopal Varma on his Twitter profile.

On the work front, the filmmaker is busy with Amma Rajyam lo Kadapa Biddalu.
