Jayam was the remake of the 2002 Telugu film of the same name. It got directed by Ravi's elder brother M. Raja. Sada and Gopichand, who played the pivotal roles in the original, have reprised their characters in this remake as well. Upon its release, Jayam received a unanimously positive response among the audiences and became a big success at the box office. It collected about Rs. 25 crores in its full run. After that, Jayam Ravi went on to act in many successful films. His 2004 film M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi brought him the Best Actor Award at Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. Films like Santosh Subramaniam, Peraanmai, Romeo Juliet, Thani Oruvan, Bhooloham and Adanga Maru have become huge hits. Thani Oruvan brought him Filmfare and IIFA Awards as well.
