Samuthirakani and popular video jockey Ramya Subramanian had joined for a film titled Sangathalaivan. The film has been lying on the shelves for over four years for unknown reasons. Now, a recent update suggests that Sangathalaivan will release in theatres on February 26. Actor Dhanush took to Twitter to share a new poster and the release date of the film. Sharing the poster, Dhanush wrote, ""Happy to announce the release date of sangathalaivan .. wishing all the very best to @VetriMaaran @thondankani manimaaran and team (sic)."
The film is directed by Manimaran who had helmed Udhayam NH4. Sangathalaivan's story is adapted from a famous Tamil novel, Thariyudan, which was written by Bharathinathan. The film explores the lives of weavers and the struggles they face in the textile industry. Majority of the film were shot in Coimbatore and Erode. Samuthirakani is rumored to play the role of a union leader. Meanwhile, Dhanush has headed to the US to shoot his Netflix film The Gray Man directed by Russo Brothers. He will share screen space with Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in the film.
