Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri recently wrote on Twitter against anti-CAA protests at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi. It was not received well by other people. Vivek’s tweet read: “#ShaheenBagh has turned into an Islamist conversion center and a hideout for all kinds of criminals like pickpockets, mobile thieves, drug-peddlers. All kinds of illegal activities are flourishing there. I wonder why Delhi citizens are tolerating this?”
Actor Sayani Gupta objected to his tweet saying, “Sir, I never pick out people on Twitter &leave bigots unaddressed. But you really have no conscience. What went wrong with your upbringing Sir? I am so glad I refused your film & didn’t speak to you on the award night. I am glad my instinct always tells me to stay away from poisonous ppl.”
Protests at Shaheen Bagh began on December 15 last year against the amended citizenship law. Since then, the site has become a symbol in the movement against the law. Sayani Gupta is best known for playing Gaura in Article 15 and for her roles in Jagga Jasoos and Jolly LLB 2.
Vivek Agnihotri became known for his last directorial The Tashkent Files. He is currently working on his next film titled The Kashmir Files. It is set to release on Independence Day, August 15 this year.
