Actor Simbu was last seen in director Suseenthiran's Eeswaran, which hit the theatres on Pongal this year. The actor was appreciated for his physical transformation and performance. After Eeswaran, Simbu is now busy with the shooting of director Venkat Prabhu's upcoming film Maanadu. Apart from Maanadu, Simbu is expected to shoot for his upcoming film Pathu Thala, directed by Krishna. In Pathu Thala, produced by KE Gnanavel Raja, Simbu will share screen space with young hero Gautham Karthik. The film is the Tamil remake of the Kannada film Mufti.

On January 28, Simbu has signed yet another film and he will be reuniting with filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon. The untitled film will be produced by Vels Film International. Announcing the new film, the official Twitter handle of Vels Film International wrote, "On this auspicious Day, #VelsFilmInternational Elated to announce a collaboration with dear @SilambarasanTR_ & director @menongautham for a film beginning very soon from a really brilliant script. More exciting details will follow. #PositiveVibes #SilambarasanTR47 @IshariKGanesh." Simbu and Gautham Menon had earlier worked together in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya and Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada. It is unclear if this film is a sequel to Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya or a fresh film.
