Suriya was the first actor and producer to release his films on an OTT platform. Initially, this decision was met with a lot of backlash from producers, distributors, and theatre owners. However, Suriya firmly believed that theatres and OTT platforms will co-exist. Apart from Suriya, his wife Jyotika too express that OTT platforms have leveled the field for stars in the Tamil film industry. After Soorarai Pottru, Suriya's Jai Bhim is now all set to release on Amazon Prime Video on November 2, two days ahead of Diwali.
In a recent interaction with the media, Suriya spoke about how OTT and theatres will co-exist. He said, "We all struggled in the last two years. A film would offer livelihood to nearly a thousand families. We made five films and provided job opportunities to nearly 6000 families. I believe that the OTT releases have helped them at the right time. My upcoming films Etharkkum Thunindhavan and Vaadi Vasal are deserved to be celebrated in theaters. But OTT will also be there with us. Our lifestyle has been changed. Previously, we used to go to restaurants but now, we are ordering food via various applications. Theaters and OTT will coexist, I never disrespected any form of business. I've been listening to different stories of theaters, talks are on."
