The combination of Thalapathy Vijay and director Atlee has a special place in the Tamil film industry. They started off their combo with 2016 film Theri and then teamed up for two more times for the films Mersal (2017) and Bigil (2019). All of them remained as blockbusters at the box office. Today, Theri celebrates the fourth release anniversary of it. To celebrate the occasion, let us have a recap into this movie.
Theri featured Samantha and Amy Jackson as the female leads. It had hit the screens on the 14th of April 2016. The film follows the story of DCP Vijay Kumar, who is an honest cop. But circumstances lead him to go into an exile to save his daughter. But soon, he has to come out and settle the things that had remained unfinished. The action-thriller is an entertaining ride right from the first minute of it. This is also the first film in the combination of Samantha and Vijay. They later teamed up once again for Mersal. Kalaipulli S Thanu has bankrolled this film under the banner V. Creations. It got released into Telugu as Policodu. It was the first major commercial hit for Vijay in Tollywood. Since then, all of his films are getting good market in the Telugu arena.
The music composed by GV Prakash Kumar is also one of the major assets of the film. Especially the background score received a good response from the audiences. Theri also won three IIFA Utsavam awards which included Best Director and Best Actor in a Negative Role.
