The film industry had taken a huge hit owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. Watching a film in the theatres was a far fetched dream just a few months ago. There was also the question of if the audiences will come to the theatres. Vaishnav Tej's Uppena has beaten all odds and is now a proud member of the 100 crore club! It's a massive deed for a film with not one but two debutant actors, Panjaa Vaishnav Tej and Kirthi Shetty! Uppena is also Bucchi Babu Sana's directorial debut.
"Time and again it is proved that nothing can stop Good Cinema #100CroreGrossForUppena మీ ఉప్పెనంత ప్రేమకి ధన్యవాదాలు #BlockbusterUppena #Uppena #PanjaVaisshnavTej @IamKrithiShetty @VijaySethuOffl @BuchiBabuSana @ThisIsDSP @aryasukku @SukumarWritings @adityamusic," read the announcement from Mythri Movie Makers.
After star-studded films like Baahubali, Rangasthalam, and Khaidi No.150, Uppena is the most recent film to his 100 crore mark. It's the first Telugu film with fresh faces to achieve the deed! It's safe to say that both Vaishnav Tej and Krithi Shetty have made terrific debuts and we can expect a lot from them.
Uppena is a love story between a fisherman Aasi (Vaishnav Tej) and a college student Bebamma (Krithi Shetty). The film explores the issues of caste in the village of Uppada. Vijay Sethupathi plays the role of zamindar Rayanam and the father of Bebamma who is hell-bent on putting a stop to the romance.
Basking in the success of Uppena, both Vaishnav Tej and Krithi Shetty have signed on to appear in several films. Vaishnav Tej has films with Director Kirsh, the production houses Shine Screens and Annapurna Studios lined up. Krithi Shetty will next appear in Nani's Shyam Singha Roy. She also has Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali in her kitty.
