Will Rajinikanth save Darbar distributors?

After scoring success with Petta during last year's Pongal, Superstar Rajinikanth has come up with Darbar for this year's Sankranthi. Directed by AR Murugadoss, this action entertainer has hit the screens on the 9th of January. It had a simultaneous release in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. Even though the makers are claiming it as a super hit, we hear that the film hasn't done great business at the box office.

Buyers and distributors are now queueing up at the producer's office, asking to compensate for their losses. Now, they also stated that they would go on a hunger strike if makers still remain tightlipped on their losses.

Pandi Kannan, distributor of Darbar in Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari region, told media that the buyers bought the film going by the brand 'Rajinikanth' and not for Lyca Productions. He said that they have started witnessing the decline in collections after the first-week run and informed the same to Lyca. The producers have apparently told the buyers to wait for one more week and promised to talk with Rajini regarding the issue. The distributors agreed only to not damage the reputation of Rajini.

Kannan said that when they approached after the second week, Lyca told them that film has incurred huge losses and added that it is also due to the heavy remunerations of Rajinikanth and Murugadoss. Apparently, Lyca has asked the distributors to talk with the hero and director to settle the issue. Kannan now says that if Rajini refuses to meet them, they are planning to go on a hunger strike, along with the theatre owners of the entire state.
