Flesh revolves around the girls who fall prey to the human trafficking scandals. Swara Bhaskar plays the role of a police officer who is on a mission to expose the mafia behind this human trafficking. The series also portrays the stories of three different young girls who got caught in this deadly web. How Swara manages to rescue those young girls from that dark world forms the main plot of the story.
Swara Bhaskar's role has nothing much to offer in terms of performance. There is more glamour than the content in her role. After the adult series Radbhari, Swara came up with yet another bold role. Her choices of roles make us wonder if she is changing her route from the homely-roles to the bold ones. The actor who steals the show in the entire series is Akshay Oberoi. He is the major highlight of this show. The young girls have done their part well and so are the kids. Rest others have done justice to their characters.
Flesh got created by Sidharth Anand, the director of last year's biggest hit in Bollywood, War. Andhadhun and Badlapur fame Pooja Ladha Surti has co-written the script. Their names created high attention towards this show. But there is nothing spectacular in this series. It feels like a hasty process that never ends. As there are no censor restrictions on OTT platforms, the makers have used a lot of visual obscenity, profanity and verbal abuses to bring the grittiness of reality. But that doesn't add up well if there is no proper content in the series. The cinematography is good. The editing and the music were not up to the mark. They don't lift the mood of the movie.
The main story and its relevance are the major positives of this series. We know that human trafficking is one of the major issues faced by our country. Many young girls fall prey to this trap. The makers have shown those instances in a gritty way.
The grittiness is its positive and negative aspect as well. The show is not for the faint-hearted for sure. There are many sequences in the series that disturb and make it an uncomfortable watch. Besides that, the story is not engaging enough to make us hooked to it.
Flesh has a good storyline but the writing is not good enough to make it an interesting watch. The series starts off on a good note with the suspenseful first two episodes. Later, it begins to falter in many places. Nothing keeps us engaged in the proceedings. Even the climax doesn't give us any high and leaves with disappointment. Right from the performances to the technical aspects, there is nothing that stands out in this series. Thus, Flesh remains a middling affair.
