Arumpon (Sivakarthikeyan’s is the head of the family comprising his mother (Archana), sister Thulasi (Aishwarya Rajesh) and grandfather (Bharathiraja). As he comes from a dysfunctional family, he faces a lot of issues because of their relatives.
There comes a time when Arumpon had to get her sister Thulasi married off to Ayyanar (Natarajan Subramaniam), a ruffian in the nearby villain. This causes a lot of havoc in Thulasi’s life. How Arumpon solves it and brings the entire family together forms the rest of the story.
Sivakarthikeyan as Arumpon has given a textbook performance. His emotions are right from each scene and kudos to the filmmaker for having incorporated filmy things to cater to the actor’s fans.
Anu Emmanuel is the heroine of Namma Veetu Pillai; but, her portions are minimal and insignificant. She comes in as Siva’s pair and becomes romantic at every given point.
Aishwarya Rajesh has gotten a meaty role in Namma Veetu Pillai and she has given a realistic performance. As Thulasi, she has lived her role, which is commendable.
Veteran actors Archana and Bharathiraja are the perfect addition to the cast of Namma Veetu Pillai as they have brought a sense of reality to the film.
Director Pandiraj’s films are about the importance of human relationships. It would either be within a family or between two friends. Namma Veetu Pillai speaks about a dysfunctional family and its pros and cons.
Pandiraj’s Namma Veetu Pillai reminds us of Kadaikutty Singam starring Karthi and Sayyeshaa. The new film has gotten most of its parts right and has catered to the family audience.
D Imman’s music is moving, and he tells the audience what to feel and when to feel for an emotional sequence.
The screenplay of Namma Veetu Pillai is packed and has a lot of easter eggs that hide in it, which has a connection to earlier films of Sivakarthikeyan and Aishwarya Rajesh.
One disadvantage of Namma Veetu Pillai is that a few scenes became quite repetitive and towards the second half, it became predictable that you could even utter the same dialogues.
Sometimes, we feel that the mass element to boost Sivakarthikeyan’s image was force-fed to the audience.
Namma Veetu Pillai is a decent watch with all elements of family sentiment, romance, comedy and action. Sivakarthikeyan has bounced back after a series of underwhelming films. Watch it if you are a fan of melodramatic dramas.
