A 12-year-old boy dies after imitating freedom fighter Bhagat Singh's execution. The incident took place in Chitradurga, Karnataka. 12-year-old Sanjay Gowda, who was rehearsing a programme to be presented at a school program, died when a rope was accidentally tied around his neck. The police said that Sanjay Gowda was alone in the house. Nagaraj and Bhagyalakshmi run a restaurant in the city next to their home. Badavane police station sub-inspector KR Geethamma said that when the two returned at around 9 pm, they found their son, a class 7 student, hanging.

The house was locked from the inside. The child was hanging from the ceiling fan. Sanjay was shifted to a government hospital, but his life could not be saved. Police said the boy had imitated hanging Bhagat Singh by making a noose with a rope. In the complaint, father Nagaraj said that the boy was going to perform Bhagat Singh in a play for the school's cultural programme on Tuesday on the occasion of Rajyotsava celebrations. The school also condoled the death of the child. The boy was a student at SLV High School.

Headmaster KT Kotresh said the school has not asked any student to play the role of Bhagat Singh. He also said that the students interested in participating in the fancy dress competition on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsavam can impersonate prominent personalities who have contributed to the development, rich culture, and heritage of Kannada. The boy's elder sister, Morarji Desai, lives in the hostel.
