Actress Sumalatha who is also the wife of Ambareesh, the actor-turned-politician has announced her political entry on Thursday. With the recent demise of her husband, she now wishes to take forth his husband’s legacy in politics by contesting from Mandya which has a huge fan base for Ambareesh.
Reportedly, she has also met Karnataka Congress Chief Siddaramaiah and expressed her willingness to contest from Mandya, her husband’s constituency. With this latest revelation from the actress, Mandya Lok Sabha constituency became a crucial point in Karnataka politics among the coalition partners, the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular).
Abuzz is that JD (S) immediately after the news of Sumalatha’s entry started pressurising Congress over the Mandya seat. On the other hand, Chief Minister Kumaraswamy wants either his Son Nikhil or Sitting MP Shivarame Gowda to contest from Mandya in 2019 Polls, which has left the Congress Party in confusion. After the interference of DK Siva Kumar from Congress party, talks are going on if Sumalatha could contest from another constituency.
Congress party has reportedly offered Bengaluru South Constituency for Sumalatha as Former Union Minister Ananth Kumar who once represented this constituency recently passed away. On this note, Sumalatha gave a statement saying: “There is no question of contesting from any other constituency except Mandya because of the bonding my family has with the people the district”.
