After 15 years Vaiko is set to return to Parliament
After 15 years, MDMK general secretary Vaiko is back to the parliamentary, and Rajya Sabha has accepted his nomination by returning officer. 'I will strive for upholding the rights of Tamil Nadu and Tamils,' Vaiko said.
Vaiko gave his nomination, on July 18 Rajya Sabha election to elect six members to the Upper House, but the court is sentenced him to one-year imprisonment under sedition charges earlier, so about this his nomination being rejected. It prompted DMK to put up an additional candidate N R Elango as a back-up option.
“I firmly believed that my nomination will be accepted since no one has so far been sentenced under these sections. I became the first leader in independent India to be sentenced under section charges. DMK president M K Stalin said there was no room for my nomination getting rejected,” Vaiko said.
Vaiko also said that “there is no shock or trouble in MDMK due to my nomination and a DMK candidate being the backup, unlike speculated in a section of vernacular media.”
Vaiko expressed that “I declined Union Cabinet berth twice. No one forms my family will ever aspire for any position in our party. Only those who got positions and even became Union Ministers deserted the party earlier and not those who Believed in the politics of the MDMK.”
Nomination for the Rajya Sabha, the returning officer rejected the four independent nominations, while accepted the DMK (3), AIADMK (2) and one each by MDMK and PMK. While DMK’ Elango is likely to withdraw his nomination on July 11, the remaining six will be declared elected unopposed the same.
