Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday alleged that EVMs were “malfunctioning or voting for the BJP” across the country, terming it criminal negligence.
“EVMs across India malfunctioning or voting for the BJP. DMs say poll officials untrained to operate EVMs. 350+ being replaced. This is criminal negligence for a polling exercise that costs Rs 50,000 Crs. Should we believe DMs @ECISVEEP, or is something far more sinister afoot?” Mr Yadav said in a tweet, tagging the Election Commission.
As polling gets underway in Uttar Pradesh Samajwadi Party leaders accused their rivals of violating the model code of conduct.
In Rampur, Samajwadi Party candidate Mohd Azam Khan told reporters that more than 300 EVMs were not functioning properly and the district officials were delaying their replacement as a result of which voting was slow. He also alleged that his voters were being prevented from coming out of their houses.
