The Home Minister Amit Shah said that by incorporating Jammu and Kashmir with the nation, the centre has achieved the dream of the nation's first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Mr Shah said today at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad at the closing procession of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers that we have achieved the vision of Sardar Patel by creating Jammu and Kashmir an indivisible part of India”.
The government eliminated privileged status from Jammu and Kashmir previously this month and split it into two regions of the state. There are still limitations in many areas of the state and more than 400 leaders are under detention, along with former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.
"Congratulations and thanks to the families (of IPS officers) for all the support they have given to IPS officers and the country," Mr Shah said. He also said that often difficulties will come, and if you get instructions that might seem unlawful, there will be some concerns in your mind, but kindly always operate within the Constitution.
He added that we leaders have the opportunity to work for five years, while you have the opportunity to serve the nation for 30 years. Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma are the senior members of the Congress who might travel to Jammu and Kashmir apart from Rahul Gandhi. Mr Azad was halted twice at Jammu airport, most lately on Tuesday, and sent directly to Delhi "forcefully" on both occasions.
