Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently announced 100% waive on water bill late-payment charges till 30th November. The chief minister said the step has been directed at putting into the mainstream a big segment of the Delhi population in terms of water supply.
Mr Kejriwal said that the water situation was bad when we got to power in 2015. When I campaigned, individuals sat with water bills in their hands within their homes. The chief minister said person's complete water bills in groups E, F, G and H-numbering around 10.5 lakh-were waived until next year's 31st March.
Mr Kejriwal said that for those in classifications A and B, the exemption is 25 %; it is 50% for category C and 75% for group D. But, the 100% waiver on missed payments fees applies across classifications.
The chief minister said that the Delhi Jal Committee (DJB) has arrears around 2500 crores, by this it will be able to recover around Rs. 600 crores in arrears.
