The results of the assembly by-polls in Vikravandi and Nanguneri are all set to go in favour of the ruling AIADMK party. Their candidates, MR Muthamizhselvan and Rettiyarpatti V Narayanan, have secured a thumping lead against rival DMK-Congress candidates N Pugazhendhi and R. Manoharan.

This is a big setback for DMK chief Stalin who was expecting positive results. In the Lok Sabha polls, Stalin’s party won 23 seats and also won a couple of seats in the by-elections. However, DMK did not carry the momentum in the latest by-elections.

In Nanguneri, the election contested between the ruling AIADMK and DMK’s ally, Congress, with Rettiyarpatti V Narayanan contesting for AIADMK against Congress’ candidate R. Manoharan.

Stalin wanted to make DMK a leading force by 2021 assembly elections, but these results came in like speed breakers. The by-election for Nanguneri and Vikravandi assembly constituencies hold on October 21st.
