Chincholi, Kundagol by-elections: Tight fight between the Congress and BJP

The results of the by-elections conducted for Chincholi and Kundagol Assembly divisions will be declared today, associated with more anticipated 2019- Lok Sabha elections. Initial trends suggest that in Kundagol Congress candidate Kusumavathi Shivalli is leading with 4,066 vote majority against BJP’s SI Chikkanagoudar. The demise of Congress minister for Municipalities CS Shivalli, on March 22 necessitated the by-election and the Congress, in a bid to pick off the sympathy votes, they have fielded Shivalli’s wife Kusumavathi Shivalli to retain the seat.

Chikkanagoudar has lost to CS Shivalli by a thin majority of 633 votes in May 2018 assembly elections.

Meantime, in Chincholi, the Avinash Jadhav of the BJP had a lead of 4,514 on Congress candidate Subhash Rathod. The by-elections were mandatory after Avinash’s father and Congress MLA Umesh Jadhav resigned as rebel legislator.
