CM Palaniswami says the only government can decide on Rajiv Gandhi case convicts
Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswmai said the State government seeking the release of seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case and now governor Banwarilal Purohit must decide on their release. Debate on the demand for grants for law, justice administration, and prison departments, the CM said the cabinet passed the resolution for release of the convicts after the Supreme Court order.
“Law is common for all… we passed a resolution and send it to the governor for action. We have done it right and there is no lapse on our part,” he said. The DMK leader S Durai Murugan said the party did not get a chance as the AIADMK did in the wake of the SC order.
The CM criticized the DMK regime led by former CM M Karunanidhi took the cabinet resolution to commute the death sentence of Nalini alone. Palaniswami said “how can one be released, and others left out? If one must be released, everyone should rerelease.” Law Minister C. Ve Shanmugam said the AIADMK government did its best on the release of the convicts, unlike the DMK that sat on the Cauvery final award for years without getting it notified.
