CM Palaniswmai announced to release water from Mettur dam on Tuesday
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had announced that to release the water issues in the state, he said he would open the sluice gates of the Mettur dam in Salem district on Tuesday. CM also said the southwest monsoon that remained intensive in the Cauvery basin, due to that the water level is increased in Mettur reservoir.
The CM Palaniswami said, “The reservoir is filling up fast and rainfall triggered by southwest monsoon remains intensive. Anticipating the inflows from Karnataka reservoirs and the requests from the farmers, I ordered the release of water from Mettur for paddy cultivation in the Cauvery delta on August 13,” he said.
He also said, “I request the farming community to ensure water management through all canals and check dams,” he said. Mettur reservoir remains a lifeline of the Cauvery delta, that is the rice bowl of the stat.
