Congress leader sacked for praising PM Modi joins BJP
Former Congress MLA from Kerala, AP Abdullakutty, who was recently expelled from Congress for praising PM Narendra Modi, joined BJP on Wednesday in the presence of party Working President JP Nadda. This two-time Congress MLA and two-time CPM MP from Kerala's Kannur is a long-time admirer of Modi.
Further, the only Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) member in Rajya Sabha, Ram Kumar Kashyap, also joined BJP today. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) spokesperson Lanka Dinakar also joined BJP.
Recently he was expelled from Congress for praising Modi. The move resulted after he heaped praises on the Prime Minister on the rare re-election victory and lauded Modi's pet schemes such as Swacch Bharat Abhiyan.
Known as a politician who grabs opportunities with both hands, Abdullakutty is joining BJP not at his best times. He has been constantly hit with controversies in the recent past, and his clout in Kannur has arguably been on the wane over the years. He was even denied the ticket by the congress in the recent elections over fear of defeat.
After Tom Vadakkan, Abdullakutty is the second Kerala politician to make the switch from Congress to BJP.
