While BJP and Congress are fighting to attain the clear majority to form the Government in Haryana, here comes a major shock to the INC. Congress spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala has lost the Kaithal constituency in the Haryana Assembly elections.
Surjewala, who had won the seat in 2009 and 2014, lost to BJP’s Leela Ram by a margin of 567 votes. In January this year, Surjewala had lost the Jind by-elections, coming third after garnering 22,740 votes.
Failing to translate his initial lead into a victory, Surjewala lost by a margin of 567 votes. Surjewala was seeking re-election from Kaithal. The Congress leader had lost the Jind by-poll earlier this year. A close confidant of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Surjewala was seeking a fifth term as a lawmaker.
The BJP, which predicted that most exit polls to retain power in Haryana with a brute majority, locked in a close contest with the main Opposition, the Congress, as per leads.
