Counting begins for 81 Assembly seats in Jharkhand

The counting of votes for the Jharkhand state Assembly has begun. Voting had taken place for the 81-member state Assembly in five phases from November 30 to December 20. Overall voter turnout in the Assembly poll estimated at 65.23% compared to 66.53% in 2014. As many as 1,216 candidates including 127 women fought the state elections.

 
In the 81-member Jharkhand state Assembly, the trends show JMM-Congress-RJD alliance leading on 43 seats, crossing the halfway mark. The BJP, leading on 27 seats while the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) Party seen leading on three seats. According to the trends, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) is leading on four seats.
 
Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP candidate Raghubar Das are leading in Jamshedpur (East) seat in the state Assembly elections as per early trends. Das is the first Jharkhand CM to complete his five-year term since the state's formation. Meanwhile, Congress-JMM-RJD alliance is leading in 41 seats and BJP in 29 seats.
 
The voting for the state elections held in five phases from November 30 to December 20. A party or an alliance needs at least 41 seats to form the state government.
