Delhi’s only two female CMs died within two weeks of each other
The death of former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj led the entire country to mourn over her demise. The 67-year-old leader, who had served her fourth term in Lok Sabha had long been her party’s most prominent woman face.
She was the youngest cabinet minister at 25 when she joined the Haryana government in 1977 and the first woman chief minister of Delhi and her tenure was from October 13, 1998-December 3, 1998.
Almost three weeks after three-time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit passed away on July 20, former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj passed away aged 67 on Tuesday night.
They were the only two women Chief Ministers of Delhi and both died of cardiac arrest. The three-time chief minister and veteran Congress leader Sheila Dikshit passed away in July this year.
Meanwhile, another lady CM, BSP supremo Mayawati on Wednesday paid her last respects to former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at latter's residence in Delhi.
Mayawati said, "Sushma Swaraj Ji's demise personally saddens me. She was an able politician, administrator, and a good orator. Her personality was very friendly, even with members of the opposition."
