Did Chandrababu end the decades-old rivalry between Devineni and Vangaveti families?
Vangaveeti and Devineni are the two families that played a major role in the politics of Vijayawada. It can before named as an era of group faction between the two communities back in the 1980s. However, 2019 elections seem to end this decades-old rivalry, with the intervention of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu.
Avinash and Radha, the heirs of Devineni and Vangaveeti families respectively are now under the same roof, Telugu Desam Party. As Devineni Nehru and his son Avinash hopped to TDP post-2014 elections, Radha has recently joined TDP bidding goodbye to YSRCP on facing humiliation from the party chief YS Jagan. Devineni Avinash was offered the ticket to contest from Gudivada whereas Vangaveeti Radha will account his charisma to campaign for the party in the upcoming elections.
Going back to the rivalry between the families, it all started with the fracas between Devineni Nehru and Vangaveeti Ranga who worked for Chalasani Venkata Ratnam back in the ’80s. The group clashes evolved into political rift as Ranga belonged to the Congress and Nehru was with the TDP. The clashes took the worst form with the death of Devineni Gandhi and Devineni Murali, the brothers of Nehru who were murdered. This, in turn, has led to the brutal death of Ranga who was killed when he was on a hunger strike. These series of deaths made the city into a home for caste wars between Kapu and Kamma communities.
Later, Nehru was elected successfully as an MLA for five times from Kankipadu constituency on behalf of Congress party. Due to the differences with the party, he later joined TDP in 2016 along with his son Avinash who is a budding politician then. Vangaveeti Radha, son of Vangaveeti Ranga who was with the Congress earlier moved to Praja Rajyam Party founded by actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi. After the party was merged into Congress Radha came out of it to join YSR Congress Party. As of now, he is with TDP, the same party where Avinash is also contesting.
Avinash and Radha have also attended a public meeting together which was presided over by TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. This has not only sent positive vibes to the party cadre but has also wiped out the bloodshed past paving paths to the new beginnings.
