DK Shivakumar arrest: Congress supporters protests rally at National college grounds
By the arrest of Congress leader and former minister DK Shivakumar, 40,000 congress supporters have held the road rally in the city, and also arterial JC Road, its caused long as 90 minutes traffic jam. The rally was held between the National College Grounds and Majestic.
One Policeman said, “While those leading the walk reached Town Hall at 1 pm, those at the tail-end were still crossing JC Road.”
While Deputy superintendent of police, Nelamangala, S Panduranga said, “Accordingly, vehicles carrying protesters dropped them at Nagasandra Metro station and returned to their allotted parking lots near BIEC. Adopting this method helped us control traffic.” However, K. Raju why own a looming unit in Akkipet said, “Normally it takes 15-20 minutes to reach workspace from my home in Sampangiramnagar. Today, I stood in the same place for 40 minutes.”
A private school teacher Aswini Deepak said, “I teach music and visit different regularly. Today, I had class at a private school in Rajajinagar. But I realized I won’t be able to reach on time. I called the principal and told her that I need to leave.”
Meanwhile, Additional commissioner of police BR Ravikanthe Gowda said “Traffic was affected when protesters began walking towards Freedom Park. However, thanks to public awareness about the rally, the snarls were lesser than usual. We had anticipated more trouble when the rally reached Freedom Park, but our decision to not completely close Sheshadri Road helped. Vehicles moved slowly, but steady,” he said.
