DMK not to go ahead against speaker P Dhanapal

The DMK decide to press leading with its no-confidence notice passed against assembly speaker P Dhanapal. As the state assembly was said, the notice against the speaker was too taken up on Monday, when the house resumes its normal business.

“We have decided not to press with our notice of no-confidence motion against the speaker. We have submitted a letter, indicating the same to him” DMK president and leader of opposition M K Stalin said,

“Based on the circumstances that prevailed then, we had given the notice. But, now we feel that is not necessary,” Stalin said. DMK had submitted the statement against the speaker latterly had, in turn, served notice in April for unit three rebel AIADMK MLAs, including A Prabhu (Kallakurichi), V T Dhinakaran. After the three rebel MLAs turned the Supreme Court and obtained a stay against the disqualification move.

The decision by the DMK seems to declare that the numbers are not in its favor and any move to press ahead with the ‘no confidence’ notice against the speaker would result in unwanted blame, especially given the party’s aggressive firm in taking on the government. The leading AIADMK has 16 members in its side, apart from the speaker, the three rebel and three who opposed on the AIADMK. The DMK and supporters have 108 members in the 234 member house. apart from the independent T T V Dhinakaran, two seats are empty following the quits of H Vasanthakumar (Nanguneri) and the demise of DMK MLA K Rathamani (Vikravandi).

Senior Minister D Jayakumar told the opposition had understood that the ruling camp enjoys a huge in the Assembly. “Thanks to the DMK chief for understanding that,” the leader said.

“It is not only a question of numbers. With the state set to witness Rajya Sabha polls on July 18, the DMK is keen on getting three of its nominees (including one from MDMK) to the Upper House. It is keen to ensure that the Rajya Sabha election process is smooth affair and to avoid any misadventure at this stage that could alter the outcome due to any unforeseen developments,” a source said in the DMK.
