Dominant Mumbai handed RCB their seventh loss of the season!
Same sad story for Royal Challengers Bangalore as they lost for the seventh time in 8 of their league matches so far. In the 31st match of the VIVO IPL 2019, Rohith Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first in their home. Mumbai started very well as Behrendroff got the best of Virat Kohli with a body line delivery.
Parthiv has shown some resistance but his innings was ended by Hardik Pandya. Ab Devilliers and Moeen Ali shown some character at the start of the innings but shifted gears at the back end. Both scored their 50’s in no time. Most importantly Moeen Ali looked threatening before he was debated by Malinga. AB Devilliers got out unfortunately by the bullet throw of Pollard in the final over and RCB were restricted to 171 which below-par total on this ground.
Chasing a mean total, Mumbai went off to a flier as openers scored 67 runs in the power play. With the introduction of spin, things changed as Moeen Ali winded both the owners with his arm deliveries. Mumbai continued to attack even after two quick wickets and kept the required rate well below 9 rpo.
Suryakumar Yadav and young Ishan Kishan scored 29 and 21 respectively before they fell to Chahal. With 22 needed from the last two overs, Kohli went for a spin in 19th over with Nehra’s advice which proved wrong as Hardik smashed Negi 6,4,4,6 in the consecutive deliveries. Malinga was awarded the 'Man of the Match' for his 4-0-31-4.
