Dr. Harish Kumar gave order to HESCOM officers and Karwar, Ankola municipalities to stop the farmers from utilizing the pump set over the Gangavathi river as the water intensity in the basin is reducing, as the result causing drinking water problems.
The DC stated that “Karwar and Ankola areas depend on Gangavali river for drinking water supply. The water level in the river has come down leading to irregular supply of drinking water. In May, it usually rains in the Malnad areas and the river flow increases. But this year it has not rained so far. Therefore, it was necessary to stop using the pump sets for the time being to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to Karwar and Ankola areas”.
