Dr. Pramod Sawant becomes the new CM of Goa after winning floor test!
After the demise of the Manohar Parrikar, former Chief Minister of Goa, The BJP government in Goa led by newly appointed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has won the floor test on Wednesday by winning 20 votes while the Congress polled only 15.
In Goa legislative assembly, the ruling party got 20 votes while Congress and NCP opposition ranged to get only 15 votes. Goa's legislative assembly is 40 seated but the current strength of the house is 26. It was reduced after Manohar Parrikar’s death with the resignations of BJP legislator Francis D'Souza and two Congress lawmakers Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte.
The ruling BJP government in Goa has the support of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Goa Forward Party which have three candidates each besides independents. New Chief Minister Pramod Sawant won the 2012 and 2017 Assembly elections from North Goa's Sanquelim constituency, which used to be a Congress stronghold. The 12 member government headed by Dr. Sawanth as sworn in by Goa governor Mridula Sinha on Tuesday.
