Educational Minister Sengottaiyan says 45 govt schools conversion to libraries is only temporary
School Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan said in Assembly the State has 45 government schools with the only one no students and such schools have been changed into libraries. The libraries are not permanent and once the enrolment goes up, it will function as schools.
The government was planning to close the 1,400-odd government-funded schools with less students. Minister rejected this and said there is no such intention. “Is it possible to manage a school with two teachers just for a single student? So we have transferred them to other schools for now,” Sengottaiyan said.
The government has stops funds to some schools and merge 1000 there low enrolment schools with others. Sengottaiyan rejected that 45 schools have been merged.
The state education department said its authorities find out the list of schools less than 10, DMK MLA Tennarasu said 12,000 libraries set in village panchayats under Marumalarchi Thittam.
