On Tuesday, a Delhi Fire Service official said that a fire broke out in a cloth godown in the Gandhi Nagar market region. He said that so far, though, no casualties have been recorded. The fire that spread out at about 7:47 am spread over two houses that had six shops. A call was placed at 7.47 am about the fire, after which 21 fire tenders were hurried to the spot.
The officer also said that however, no deaths have been recorded, products worth lakhs have been thrown into flames. No one was in the buildings as the morning blaze broke out. The blaze is now under control.
The fire officers said that the fire cause is being identified. Gandhi Nagar is one of Asia's biggest textile industry in the Shahdara region. Every day the market is thought to have a footfall of 10,000-20,000 individuals.
The fire causes a huge loss of the shopkeepers. It is relief that no death has been recorded and there was no one in the building. The department was so active to send 21 fire tenders on time at the spot. Only then the blaze was under control.
