Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir joins the ruling BJP party

Former Cricketer Gautam Gambhir who was recently conferred with the Padma Shri award has joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday. The erstwhile opener joined the party in the presence of Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad.
If the media reports are to be believed, Gambhir will be fielded from the New Delhi constituency to contest in the upcoming LS polls. “I am glad that I have chosen the right party to start my political career. Modi's vision has inspired me a lot which led me to join BJP. It is a great pleasure to get the opportunity,” stated Gambhir. Union Minister Arun Jaitley went all praise for Gambhir for not being a sympathiser of Pakistan like many others and describes his joining as an ”important induction" into the BJP.
The former cricketer is known to be vocal on social media making strong comments on contemporary politics and incidents like the Pulwama terror attack. This 37-year-old cricketer also said that he wants to serve the country after being contributed to the field of cricket.
