GoI announce Special Railway Zone to Visakhapatnam
Special Railway Zone to Visakhapatnam has been one of the key election promises made by the central government. After almost 5 years of speculations, the GoI has finally announced a Special Railway Zone to Visakhapatnam. Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has made a formal announcement today on the same.
As per the press release is given by the GoI, the newly announced Special Railway Zone has been named as the South Coastal Railway Zone (SCOR) with the headquarters at Visakhapatnam and the ministry will soon complete the formalities that will lead to the formation of the SCOR.
SCOR zone will have Vijayawada, Guntur and Guntakal divisions whereas the Waltair division is split into two parts, one in the new zone and the other in South Central Railway.
Irrespective of the political scenarios, all the parties have welcomed the decision taken by the central government. Chalasani Srinivas has stated that this is the result of the fighting spirit of Andhra people. “Andhra Pradesh will not stop their fight here but will continue until we achieve ultimate justice, the Special Category Status. We wish the other promises like Steel Plant for Kadapa will also be sanctioned by the GoI”, he added.
