Gulab Nabi Stopped at Srinagar Airport
Congress MP Ghulam Nabi Azad was stopped today at Srinagar airport after landing in the town. It has been in the safety lockdown since midnight Sunday to head off difficulty over the major choices of the centre to end the unique status under Article 370 and divide the state into two union territories.
At the airport, a Congress leader said that he was going to be sent home. The leader said that he would be sent back by the plane at 3:30 p.m. He was going to join a conference and visit his house.
Rajya Sabha's Leader of the Opposition “Mr Azad” tried to enter Srinagar City and meet with the leader of Congress.
Mr Gulab Nabi Azad said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were sad. He was going there to be a part of their sadness, to be with them. He also said that you can pay anyone to get these done.
Approximately 400 individuals were arrested as "precaution" across the state. The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah stay also in the custody of the safe house.
Mr Azad spoke at a meeting of the Congress Working Committee, the top decision-making body of the party, on Tuesday about the decision of Kashmir, explaining his powerful resistance to the move. The chairperson of Congress Parliamentary Party Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi avoided talking directly against the move by the government but criticized the way it was carried through without consultation.
