High court says, Authorities to strictly implement Helmet rule for pillion riders
The Madras High Court had declared that in spite that its orders, a majority of people riders were not using helmets and directed the Tamil Nadu Home Secretary, DGP, police commissioners, and SPs to secure effective execution of the order.
“Though this court has passed orders periodically, judicially notice can e taken that many of the pillion riders are not wearing helmets”, the court Justices S Manikumar and Subramonium Prasad said.
The court has issued the meantime orders on a PIL registered by KK Rajendran requesting the implementation of the helmet rule.
The court warned that it would be forced to issue appropriate rules against the Heads of the Department.” It posted the notice for further hearing on July 5.
It is also stated that the government had not passed any order in pursuance of its June 12 order directing all police officials not under the rank of sub-inspectors be empowered to force spot fines and compound offenses proceeded under the Motor Vehicles Act.
