Houses given to the homeless

The Chengaroor diocese of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church has constructed five houses for the homeless poor at Mar Themotheos Nagar at Kaduvakkuzhy, near Chengaroor, in Mallappally taluk as part of its charity mission.

Metropolitan Archbishop of Thiruvalla Thomas Mar Koorilos said the charity home project of the Church had been conceived in association with the New York-based India Catholic Association of America.
The Archbishop said the project had been launched in memory of Bishop Emeritus Geevarghese Mar Themotheos who passed away recently.
Anto Antony, MP, inaugurated a public meeting held in connection with the dedication ceremony of the houses at Chengaroor on Monday. The MP lauded the Archbishop and the Church for the charity projects.
Mathew T. Thomas, MLA, handed over the keys to the beneficiaries.
He said the charity housing project, christened Home for the Homeless, had been undertaken with the support of Keralites in America and Kuwait.
The Archbishop said the work on eight houses would begin at Kallooppara soon.
Reji Chacko, grama panchayat president, Father Santhosh Azhakath, Father Mathew Vazhayil, Father Bino John, Aby Mekkarikkattu, Jnanamony Mohan, and John Varghese, spoke.
