Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump made heads turn when they addressed 50,000 Indian Americans in Texas at the historical event Howdy Modi. While Modi uttered the words, ‘Abki Baar Trump Sarkar’, Trump introduced him as his close friend.
The event was widely covered by US media and surprisingly many felt that Trump is ‘playing second fiddle to Modi.’ In its elaborate report, New York Times wrote, “But never one to let a good crowd go to waste, Mr Trump treated the giant gathering at NRG Stadium in Houston as his own, declaring that "you have never had a better friend as president than President Donald Trump, that I can tell you."
Washington Post echoed similar thoughts and wrote that Trump gave an excellent warmup act to Modi’s speech. BBC covered the event with the title: 'Howdy, Modi!': Trump hails Indian PM at 'historic' Texas rally.
Hours after the event, The Wall Street Journal in its op-Ed wrote, “The joint appearance also underscores the growing strategic significance of US-India ties. The world's two largest democracies are a vital check on China's ambitions to dominate the Asia-Pacific region, as Mr Trump recognises and Barack Obama did as well.”
It also reported that the meeting subverts the strategic significance of the alliance between the two countries.
