A supposedly 22-year-old woman was burned to death by her husband and in-laws in Shravasti district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday night after she attempted to lodge a police complaint about attempting to divorce her using the now prohibited ' triple talaq ' practice.
Surprisingly, the local police reportedly attempted to compromise the pair and resolve their disputes rather than pursuing legal action. The 2019 Muslim Lady (Marriage Rights Protection Act) was enacted on July 25 by the Lok Sabha and also five days later by the Rajya Sabha. Any type of ' triple talaq '-spoken, written or digital communication-is illegal and useless as per the conditions of the bill. The dad of the victim stated that her spouse Nafees, who performs in Mumbai, had offered his daughter ' triple talaq ' over the phone on August 6. The victim, Sayeeda, came the same day to file a complaint with the police.
She was sent home, however, and requested to wait to return from Mumbai for her spouse. Her father said that his husband used to frequently beat her up, but sooner he didn't lift his voice. But his husband gave her ' talaq ' afterwards. The police made them compromise after the wife asked the police to offer him a second opportunity”.
A senior police officer 'BS Dubey' also said that we've got a complaint. The post-mortem body will be sent. Eight individuals have been named in the FIR. We're trying to arrest everybody, "said BS Dubey.
