IAF pilot Abhinandan to get 'Vir Chakra’ on August 15
IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who shot down a Pakistani F-16 jet, will be awarded Vir Chakra on Independence Day. He has shown extreme heroics in the tense situations post the deadly Pulwama attack. Varthaman was captured by Pakistan following the crash of his jet on Pakistan soil during the aerial conflict between India and Pakistan after Balakot airstrike and was later released.
He was beaten up brutally by the Pakistan Soldiers who thought him as an intruder or a spy from India. But he resisted his composure and refused to reveal any more details of his fighter jet and other matters related to the Indian military.
Now, he is going to receive Vir Chakra is third in precedence in wartime gallantry awards on the eve of Independence Day. Along with him, Indian Air Force’s Squadron Leader Minty Agarwal to be conferred with Yudh Seva Medal for her role as a fighter controller during the February 27 aerial conflict between India & Pakistan post IAF airstrikes in Balakot.
